With the Cardamom Mountains in the north, the Damrei Mountains in the south and remote beaches dotting a rugged coastline, Koh Kong is strikingly beautiful. Travelling through the province can be difficult as unsealed roads running through the forest are often washed away and rivers must be crossed on ramshackle ferries. The small town of Koh Kong, close to the Hat Lek border crossing with Thailand, is the province’s urban centre-many shops accept only Thai Baht.

Battambang Province, known as 'the rice bowl of Cambodia,' is located in the northwest, bordering Thailand. Around 7% of Cambodia's population live in Battambang. Mostly farming rice and rending orchards – Battambang oranges, prized for their sweet
taste, are much in demand throughout the region. Battambang is often called Cambodia’s second city, although its wide boulevards are a far cry from the chaotic streets of most urban centres.
